Making the grade in Switzerland

Places at upper secondary schools or 'gymis' are in hot demand in Switzerland. Over the next few days, primary school pupils in the canton of Zürich are taking their admission tests to these academic schools. About 20% of all students attend gymis — leading to the 'matura' school leaving certificate, which grants access to all universities. The proportion is very low compared to other European countries, and there's a political debate over whether access to high schools should be broadened. (SF/swissinfo.ch)
