Visual Dialog by E.Law, K.Potter and J.Kim
Experimenting with light was the main dialogue for our digital presentation. We played around with different uses of light, shadow, and projections. We took advantage of two pieces of tracing paper, incorporating the front of the first tracing paper for the scene projection. The back of the first piece of tracing paper was used for "shadow play" with hands and paper objects. The second sheet of tracing paper was cut into; forming a bright cityscape that was lit by a direct light source, which was situated behind the two hanging sheets of tracing paper. After listening to our chosen song, the three of us agreed that this song evoked a certain playfulness and had a mysterious edge. We used the cityscape projection as a canvas to convey what we all felt while listening to this song. Stop motion was chosen instead of a continuous video because the stop motion parallels the playful nature of the movement of all of the elements in our piece. Such elements include the movement of projected images with the cut images and the shadow images. Thus creating a cohesive narrative
